How to:Install a tachometer – update

rpm wire running to the ECU. There’s different ways you can/have to install a tachometer on different vehicles but the methods used to install the tach in this video should work for most vehicles(specifically Honda). Please check your wiring diagrams and do research before installing your tachometer. Hope this video makes installing a tach more clear and understandable.Good luck with your install! Sorry for the low sound and low quality of the video(the equipment I have available isn’t great) …

97 civic should be obd2 so your distributor should have one wire harness connector instead of the 2 the obd1 distributors have in 92-95 civics.

You should see two wires in your connector for your distributor that are thicker than the rest,
a black/yellow wire and a dark blue wire….splice your rpm signal wire to the dark blue wire and that should do it.

You can splice the wire into your rpm signal wire that’s in the ecu wire harness if you don’t want to go through the fire wall too

make sure you’re getting power to the tach, make sure you have a good ground and make sure you have a good connection to the rpm wire.

If you still have problems try another tach, good luck!
