Whats an online storage and how many types of online storage are there?

I’ve got a research to do for my computing class,and I don’t know whats an online storage.And mind you,I have zero knowledge about computer stuffs.Anyone can explain to me,and perhaps links to any website.

On line storage is a web site that allows you to transfer files up to their site, so that you can access them from amy computer that as Internet access, or share them with friends by allowing them access to see/open/copy what is in your account.
It can be useful if you have work files that you want to access from home, or if you are going on a trip. You can access those files from anywhere in the world. Also for sharing pictures, etc., with other people.
