I wouldn’t recommenced backing up your program files as you can just re-install them if you decided to re-install windows for example. Take a note of the software you had installed on the original hard drive so you don’t forget any software and either save the ’setup.exe’ file of each of the programs which is generally the installation file. Or just download the install files off the internet and re-install. Hope this helps

When I’ve backed up my program files, if the computer has to be recovered, how can I reinstall my programs (such as anti-spayware, different media players and so on) using that backup? Is there a file in each program folder that can be used to reinstall them?
